The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in Negros Oriental is holding the pre-registration and registration of individuals to the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) on Saturdays.
This is to cater to as many clients in the different towns and cities in the province for the national ID campaign, Ariel Fortuito, PSA-Negros Oriental chief, said Friday.
Step 1 or pre-registration of the PhilSys registration, which started last November in Negros Oriental, is now ongoing in the entire province, based on the listings provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, he said.
Step 2 Registration (biometrics and other data capturing), meanwhile, is now ongoing in Dumaguete City, Sibulan, San Jose, Bacong, Dauin, Zamboanguita, Valencia, Pamplona, and Amlan, with some mayors already having been registered.
Tanjay City, Bais City, and Mabinay will be next line by next week.
As of March 3, the PSA in Negros Oriental has reported that a total of 126,520 individuals were served in the pre-registration (Step 1) and registration (Step 2) of PhilSys.
Signed into law by President Rodrigo R. Duterte in August 2018, Republic Act 11055, or the Philippine Identification System Act, aims to establish a single national ID for all Filipinos and resident aliens.
The national ID shall be a valid proof of identity that shall be a means of simplifying public and private transactions, enrollment in schools, and the opening of bank accounts.
It will also boost efficiency, especially in dealing with government services where people will only need to present one ID during transactions.
